Schmidt Family Stories: The Dirty Thirty

Yup, that's me. I'm the big 3-0. I've been making a big deal out of it, but really... it's just another day/year. For most of my adult life I had a goal... my goal in life was to have a college degree, married, two kids, a home, a great job... all before I was 30. I made my goal by 7 months. I'm proud of myself. The only thing I wish I would have done better or quicker was to be healthy and skinny. I know I just had a baby 7 months ago... whatever! I have struggled with my weight for the last 10 years and it's gotten old! Hopefully this 30th year of my life will be nicer to me in that department.

Overall, and most importantly, this birthday marks a very special and important time in my life. The day I turned 30, July 17, 2011, marked the moment that I have known the man of my dreams longer in my life than I haven't. July of 1996 I met a young blue eyed guy that pulled up at a friends house in a loud, old, rusty red Trans Am. He was a new Rider High School graduate, and I was a big bad "almost sophomore". I was wearing a striped tank top and denim shorts overalls with brown Doc Martin sandals. He was wearing jean shorts and a tshirt with the arms cut off with high top tennis shoes and big wire rimmed glasses. (we were sexy hot!!) I'll never forget seeing his gorgeous eyes looking at me over the top of his car. Two nights after that we talked and flirted while we sat on a cooler at a party, laughing at all the goobers that were drinking while we weren't......we were friends for a year and dated the next summer...in July.. the July I turned 16. He sent me 16 roses and I broke up with him. Stupid, right! I dated a real winner for a year, and the next summer... in July.... I begged him to take me back, and luckily, he did. Thank goodness! Ahhhhhhhh...enough of memory lane... sorry!

Anywho.... This year for my 30th birthday, my sister, mom and husband had a party for me. A Luau!

It was lots of great fun! I enjoyed getting to see family and friends. My dad and stepmom came in from Dallas, my cousin Brad came from Lubbock, and lots of friends came too. Mal had a cake made for me by Tracey Terrell with PattyCakes by Tray. It was awesome and delish!

I got lots of really cool presents! Dad and Autie gave me a Hydrangea plant and a Hybiscus plant.. (Both are my favorites.. I just hope I can keep them alive in this heat!) and $$$moolah$$$, I got lots of giftcards and money, Mom got me the blowdryer I've been wanting and the party.. Randy got me a Slingbox for my Dish DVR.. Ashley got me a gorgeous picture.. Mark and Jordan got me an awesome cross and Kevin & Kristen got me a gift certificate for a pedicure!
