We've done lots of work on A's room. It is looking really great, if I do say so myself! I can't wait until my next week off... It's going to get finished!
We hung two curtain rods along the wall and above her bed and made a canopy. "We" meaning "me and the drill".. You know I'll give credit where due, and this time it was all me! I tied 42,376 strips of fabric together, then tied them to the rods. And, thanks to my friend, OCD, no two colors are touching... Anywhere... I've checked. It was ridiculously time consuming but turned out ridiculously cute! And, hopefully she likes it because the "Ches Bostick" in me made sure that sucker is hung to last her until college!
Here is baby sister thinking she needs to help with the canopy!
The other amazing thing we did was the wall mural. This time, the "we" is me and my chalk, markers, pencils, and paints. I borrowed a projector from a friend because my intention was to use it and trace a mural I designed on the computer... Well, needless to say, I used it to get the basic first few lines, then... The only reason I didn't throw it against the wall is because I didn't pay for it! I got super frustrated with keeping it straight and centered. So, I turned on all the lights and just freehanded it. Now, let me be honest, I'm no art major, and I definitely stick to drawing stick figures, but apparently I kick some major hiney when it comes to drawing with chalk on a wall!
If you look closely you can see the pencil square "frame". That's as far I got with the projector. I saw on Pinterest where someone used chalk to trace on a wall, then it wipes clean instead of having to erase pencil. Good tip! I highly recommend the chalk method! Oh, just make sure you are in a well ventilated area and for goodness sake, turn off the fan and cover everything! Chalk dust is brutal!
Oh, FYI, sidewalk chalk works best!
After I freehand drew the scroll design and wrote her name... On the first try, I might add... I traced the chalk drawing with Sharpie markers. Another tip.. Have a cup of water handy to dip the tip of the marker in to clean the chalk off every now & then. ... Oh, don't expect to use this marker again after this project.. In fact, I went through 3 black markers and 2 red ones. After I did this step, and when I could feel me arms again, I took wet rags/hand towels and wiped the wall down.. And the fan, and the tv, and the bed, and the table, and me and Aniston. I had pink crusties in my eyes and nose from the chalk dust... Gross huh!
Here is the outlined drawing...
Then, I started painting. Per Aniston's request, I painted her name first. It's just an apple red, which, credit to my girl, POPS!
You see a sneak peek of the light we made, which I'll explain later....
I started on the black scroll, but I haven't done anymore since then. December got in the way!
So, the light... I got the idea from Pinterest.... Duh! I took a paper lantern I had, 3 packages of cupcake liners, glue, and a light kit. I turned the cupcake liners inside out, then glued the "bottoms" onto the lantern. Then, repeat until the surface was covered. At first, I was being all "perfect" and trying to place them just right, but I found that the haphazard just sticking and mushing them beside each other looked best. Of course no two patterns could touch, but other than that.. Relatively "OCD free"! It cost about $15, counting the light kit, and it took Aniston and me about 30 minutes to do. I assembled the light in the lantern and hung it. Easy peasy!
The only other things I've done for her room is the dust ruffle and started on her curtains. I'm not done with either one, it's a process! I'm just proud of myself for sewing straight lines and I only had to rip one seam!
It's hard to tell my plan, but there is a background fabric then I'll tie colorful strips to the other strips to coordinate with the canopy. Clear as mud!?
The curtains will be the same plan. Here is the background curtains.. With blackout lining like her majesty requested!
We've done some furniture rearranging and some hanging of stuff. I'll post more pictures when we're finished! Hopefully next week!
