Happy CHRISTmas Day One

After doing the things we are thankful for in November I had to follow it up with something for December. I've decided to do a "Happy Holidays - Merry Christmas" combination, and I'm calling in Happy Christmas. This season is our absolute favorite, and I want to capture that!

My goal this year is to make Aniston's last Christmas by herself as special as possible. This month has been so busy and overwhelming for her, because of baby sister's pending arrival. I've been working so hard to prepare her for the transitions that are approaching. She is SO excited, and she says she is ready for the big job of being a big sister.

As far as Christmas is concerned, I've tried to keep it separate from Landrie. Our theme in our house this year is a homemade Christmas. This is for many reasons. My first intention is to give Aniston a chance to express her creative side, and to give her the control of decorating things her way. She LOVES to create things, and make things pretty.

Our first day of this "homemade Christmas" was yesterday. We spent several hours yesterday starting our creations. We unloaded our "Charlie Brown" tree, collected all our supplies (construction paper, felt, scissors, glue, cotton balls, and crayons). I put a sheet down on my table (best idea of the day!) and we got busy. Our first project was some chain icicles. Aniston actually made most of them, and did a really great job. Mommy cut the strips too little which made them kinda difficult to loop and glue, but we did it. We need to make several more, but in time.

We also "made" an advent calendar. I found a cute template online, printed it off, Aniston colored it and we love it. Every day she'll glue a cotton ball to the designated spot, and gets a piece of candy. Today, December 1st was exciting because it was new and fun! She also realized she forgot to color his nose... oops! We'll do it tonight when we make some ornaments.

Here is our tree so far... with the chain icicles.

Stay tuned, during this first week, everyday we'll add more things we make to our tree.

We also had a discussion in the truck last night about what Christmas means, and why we celebrate it. Daddy and I explained to Aniston the true meaning of the season. She was really excited to know that we are celebrating HIM and his gift to us. I'm looking for a child friendly book to read to her about Jesus' birth and our reason for the season. Speaking of book... Aniston got a really neat book in the mail from Minnie and Pops for Christmas. It is the "night before Christmas story", but each page is read to her by Minnie herself. When you open the first page, it says.. "this is a book from someone who loves you very much.. Merry Christmas, Love Minnie and Pops." Every time she opens it, she looks amazed. After the story, it says "merry Christmas to Aniston and Landrie, and to all a goodnight!" Once again, pure joy! When we opened it, Aniston immediately got excited, and I teared up! What a special thing to have and something she'll always enjoy every year. When she's an adult and has children of her own, it will be such a great memory!

I hope all of you have a great day, and enjoy your Christmas season as much as we will!

Happy Christmas!
